2023 Stone Dogs

In the style of cave paintings and carvings on stone and in the landscape, the Stone Dog series was created in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the displacement of peoples across the world. Raw and primal expression, contrasted with the softness and gentleness of the colour palette, these works explore our need for safety, security and comfort, needs not met during times of conflict in homes and nations.

The use of the dog as a symbol draws on memory of the dogs who protected me when violence broke out in my childhood home - the soft warmth reassuring and protecting. It honours dogs working on the front line, sniffing for explosives, drugs, cancer, epilepsy, guiding the sight impaired and healing through their presence and touch.
